Project overview

This residential property in Oakville received a new mechanical lock standing seam roof in 2024. The homeowner initially declined snow guards. After the first winter, a snow slide off the rear slope damaged the eavestroughs above the pool deck and patio.

In summer 2025, we returned to install ORIMA LE2 tubular snow guards on all perimeter edges. The system was colour-matched to the matte black roof panels and laid out according to ground snow load for Oakville (1.4–1.8 kPa, NBC 2020).

Why steel-on-steel matters

This roof uses galvanized steel panels. Aluminum snow guard clamps create galvanic corrosion where aluminum contacts galvanized steel — accelerating rust at the seam over time. ORIMA LE2 uses steel brackets throughout, eliminating galvanic contact between dissimilar metals.

Aluminum pad-style guards are common on asphalt shingle roofs. On standing seam metal, tubular steel systems are the correct choice — both for load distribution and material compatibility.
